Ben's Profile

Growing up in London there is not much skiing close by, fortunately my family enjoyed skiing in the Alps once a year and this enabled me to develop a passion for the mountains from a young age. I Have been skiing and snowboarding for over fifteen years and telemarking for six. I fell in love with telemarking after ski touring on alpine and split board gear, and finally tele. Since then I have ski toured in the Coastal Mountains of BC, Canada, extensively for the last five years. Making steep descents and long traverses part of every day life. Teaching skiing, tele and snowboarding in Whistler, BC, is allowing me to continue working towards becoming a ski guide. Whilst made ski descents of summits like Mt Fitzsimmons and multi day ski tours like the Mcbride Range traverse, easy access from my back door. Before spending summers in Whistler I would often escape from London to the Alps, working for hiking companies and in spare time climbing mountains like Mt Blanc, Mt Pourri, France and Gran Paradiso, Italy. Recently I stayed in Whistler for the summer, climbing, running marathons and winning the 2009 Sea to Sky trail running series. Racing and being fit is very important to me, I was taught from a young age that to be able to appreciate an outdoor lifestyle, fitness is key. I have dabbled in races of all kinds including being the first finisher on tele and 17th overall in the 2008 Canadian Ski Mountaineering Championships, to winning the 2001 Reef Boardecross race in Bariloche Argentina.

Alaska is the next step in progressing the scale and seriousness of trips that I have undertaken. I am confident that the skills I have learnt and practiced will enable me to make the most of this vast and wild landscape. Weather permitting!!!!!!!
